Sultan Al Qasimi receives Sharjah certification as Healthy City

H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, received Monday at El Badi Palace, the Sharjah certification as a Healthy City for the second time, as declared by the World Health Organisation. 

The Sharjah’s accreditation for international eligibility comes after 100 percent fulfillment of the requirements and standards of healthy cities, within the World Health Organisation’s regional network, with an increase of 12 percent of the conditions met for the first time. 

Throughout its journey, Sharjah has made qualitative leaps in the health sector and infrastructure development in line with its goals and visions, setting the public health of its people and the environment among its main priorities. 

The Ruler of Sharjah received the official certificate declaring Sharjah a Healthy City for the second time from Dr. Ahmed bin Salem Al-Mandhari, Regional Director of the World Health Organisation, in the presence of Sheikh Mohammed bin Humaid Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Statistics and Community Development in Sharjah; Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad bin Nasser Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention; and Abdullah Ali Al Mahyan, head of the Sharjah Health Authority, as well as officials, and seniors of the Executive Committee of the Expansion of Healthy Cities Programme in the Emirate of Sharjah. 

During the meeting, the attendees discussed many public health issues and highlighted the emirate's efforts in promoting the health sector through various initiatives and activities, establishing health facilities and developing various public facilities in line with health standards. 

The World Health Organisation’s delegation expressed their appreciation of the distinguished efforts of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, lauding His Highness’ support to all the sectors, especially the health sector, which has witnessed remarkable development in its services, facilities, infrastructure development, in addition to the community awareness of the public health.
